Growing up in a large family\, he was amazed at how his aunts and uncles could produce plentiful amounts of high-quality food for twenty to thirty people in a few hours. At an early age\, he found himself assisting in the kitchens of his father’s Cantonese banquet-style restaurants.\nThese experiences inspired Chef Yu to pursue learning everything there was to know about the culinary arts. In college he continued to develop his cooking prowess and began to delight his friends with lavish affairs. In 2005\, responding to the urging of well-fed friends and family members freshly aglow with their experience of his unifying cuisine\, he started Fyusion Dining*. Chef Yu eventually developed a vision of dining that culminates in a feast for the senses – exquisite décor\, expertly prepared cuisine\, and a passion for encouraging patrons to explore the limitless diversity of the culinary world.\nHis passion\, flair\, and dexterity in the culinary arts invite diners throughout Chicago to slow down and enjoy each other’s company\, thereby revisiting the dining experience. Chef Yu is a premier member of the United States Personal Chef Association.\nAnd as a reminder\, if you are planning on attending\, please share a photo and bio.  I ask for this information because it helps provide a more personalized experience.  Here is the past guest directory that provides examples:\nhttps://communitydining.com/directory/\nMy blog post last year described the dinner in more detail:\nhttps://communitydining.com/2021/05/28/ancestral-dinner/

SUMMARY:Education and Film Discussion Potluck
DESCRIPTION:“The teacher certification monopoly has nothing whatsoever to do with the mastery of an intellectual discipline.  Indeed every year\, many competent people are denied admission to the business or forced out of it because they know too much.”  \n\nJohn Taylor Gatto\, American author and school teacher who taught in the classroom for nearly 30 years \n\nAs I mentioned in my previous e-mail\, one of Community Dining’s new initiatives will focus on discussions revolving around film screenings that stimulate conversation about insufficiently explored topics and challenge people to view these topics through a new paradigm.  I put thought into the selection of each film to ensure it is entertaining and intellectually challenging and has broad appeal.  \n\nThis next film I have chosen will be World Peace and other Fourth Grade Achievements.   \nExtended Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lCq8V2EhYs0\n\nEntire film:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4cuNDqdnZu4\n\nTeaching with the World Peace Game TED Talk:  https://www.ted.com/talks/john_hunter_on_the_world_peace_game?language=en \n \n“In John Hunter’s classroom\, students fearlessly tackle global problems and discover surprising solutions by playing his groundbreaking World Peace Game. These kids—from high school all the way down to fourth grade\, in schools both well funded and underresourced—take on the roles of politicians\, tribal leaders\, diplomats\, bankers\, and military commanders. Through battles and negotiations\, standoffs and summits\, they strive to resolve dozens of complex\, seemingly intractable real-world challenges\, from nuclear proliferation to tribal warfare\, financial collapse to climate change. \nIn World Peace and Other 4th-Grade Achievements\, Hunter shares the wisdom he’s gleaned from over thirty years teaching the World Peace Game. Here he reveals the principles of successful collaboration that people of any age can apply anywhere. His students show us how to break through confusion\, bounce back from failure\, put our knowledge to use\, and fulfill our potential. Hunter offers not only a forward-thinking report from the front lines of American education\, but also a generous blueprint for a world that bends toward cooperation rather than conflict. In this deeply hopeful audiobook\, a visionary educator shows us what the future can be.” \nI chose this film because it so adeptly explores such a wide range of topics and questions like:\n\nWhat level of cooperation and problem solving skills do children inherently possess?\n\nHow do the skills children learn playing this game compare and contrast to those they typically learn in public school?\n\nCan teachers actually achieve more effective results by simply creating an environment that allows students to engage in self-directed learning rather than disseminating information and dictating how and when students should respond?\n\nWhat is the purpose of schooling and how does schooling differ from education? \nI will also be incorporating a discussion Most Likely to Succeed\, “a thought-provoking documentary feature film that reveals the growing shortcomings of conventional education methods in today’s innovative world.  The film explores compelling new approaches that aim to revolutionize education as we know it\, inspiring school communities to reimagine what students and teachers are capable of doing. To date\, MLTS has screened for thousands of audiences around the world\, igniting conversations and empowering change along the way.” \nExtended Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lCq8V2EhYs0\n\nEntire film:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4cuNDqdnZu4

SUMMARY:Most Likely to Succeed Film Screening
DESCRIPTION:One of Community Dining’s new initiatives focuses on screenings of films that stimulate conversation about insufficiently explored topics and challenge people to view these topics through a new paradigm.  Most Likely to Succeed\, “a thought-provoking documentary feature film that reveals the growing shortcomings of conventional education methods in today’s innovative world”\, does just that.  “The film explores compelling new approaches that aim to revolutionize education as we know it\, inspiring school communities to reimagine what students and teachers are capable of doing. To date\, MLTS has screened for thousands of audiences around the world\, igniting conversations and empowering change along the way.” \n \nGiven that author\, speaker\, and education advisor Ken Robinson’s TED Talk “Do Schools Kill Creativity?” has become the most popular of all time with over 62 million views and poet and filmmaker Prince EA’s “I Sued the School System” video has nearly 20 million views\, the idea that schools stamp out creativity and severely limit human potential should come as no surprise.  \n \nAs Ken Robinson stated in a follow up talk to the one referenced above\, “Human communities depend on a diversity of talent\, not a singular conception of ability” and “A three year-old is not half a six year-old.”  We all inherently know how we naturally learn and that something feels deeply wrong with the way in which our school system “educates” us.  This film does a great service because it brings these ideas to light and helps us better express and discuss what we may not have previously been able to clearly articulate.   \n\nThe organizer and funder Ted Dintersmith\, an author\, speaker\, and venture capitalist\, visited approximately 200 schools throughout all 50 states\, giving him significant insight into our current educational system and helping develop a vision of what school could be\, which he incorporated into the film.  This discussion guide that Dintersmith created will serve as the basis for the follow up conversation we will have after after the film.

SUMMARY:What Does it Mean to be Healthy?
DESCRIPTION:This dinner will focus on the topic of what it means to be healthy.  Some questions to consider include: \n 1.  Is there an optimal diet?  Is a vegan or vegetarian diet inherently superior? \n2.  To what extent do your DNA and lifestyle factors predict your health?  If lifestyle factors are signficant\, do some matter more than others? \n3.  Have online social networks primarily replaced in-person social networks?  Can reduced face-to-face contact affect our health? \n4.  Can electronic devices be addicting\, and if so\, how does overuse affect us both mentally and physically?  Can it help to set an electronics curfew? \n5.  Does being religious have health benefits?  If so\, what are some examples? \n6.  Should we regularly see a doctor for preventative maintenance?  What type of doctor is qualified to assess the overall quality of our health?  \n7.  Where do the healthiest people in the world live?  What is it about these environments that contribute to their high quality health? \n8.  Is there a way to design a healthcare system that would not only give rise to a healthy population\, but also give each person incentives to stay healthy? \nMore details here: \nhttps://whatdoesitmeantobehealthy.eventbrite.com/ \n

SUMMARY:Why do we wear “masks”? A Conversation about Identity and Inclusion
DESCRIPTION:Two sisters\, Andrea Alberti and Katy Osborn\, are behind the documentary Head to Head\, which traces the path of hair from women in India sacrificing their hair to the gods to women with hair loss sacrificing a lot to get it. It explores the rift in self-identity caused by hair loss forcing women to redefine who they are and learn how to present their new self—with or without a wig. Ironically\, the act of covering up creates feelings of social isolation. Like living in dual realities. \nSign up here: \nhttps://www.eventbrite.com/e/why-do-we-wear-masks-a-conversation-about-identity-and-inclusion-tickets-50777222038

SUMMARY:Jeffersonian Dinner: How Social Media Affects the Way we Treat People
DESCRIPTION:Social media affects our lives in ways we don’t always consider.  A world without the convenience and instant validation can be hard to imagine\, especially for those who have grown up in the Internet age.   Black Mirror is a British science fiction anthology television series that examines modern society\, particularly with regard to the unanticipated consequences of new technologies.  Each of the stand alone episodes provide a social commentary on how technology affects (or will affect) or lives.  This discussion will focus on the episode Nosedive\, which depicts a world where we rate all of our interactions with others that gives an overall score.  This score greatly affects our lives by determining where we live\, what social groups we are part of\, what flights we can board\, and perhaps most importantly\, how we treat each other.  The format of this dinner described below will be in the spirit Thomas Jefferson’s gatherings centered around shared meals at his home where he would invite people with diverse backgrounds and viewpoints in order to stimulate a civil discussion.  It’s part of Community Dining\, a group started in March of 2015 aiming to connect people through shared meals that engage us in the means by which we fuel ourselves\, stimulate substantive dialogue\, and strengthen social bonds.   \nHere are some questions to think about:\n\n \n\n	Will social credit systems be a part of our lives in the future? In what ways do these systems already pervade our culture? \n\n\n	How has the ability to rate our experiences affected the way we treat people?\n\n\n	Being a social media influencer is predicated on the quantity of followers and the level of online engagement of each follower. Has being an influencer become something we inherently strive for?  Are we now more focused on external validation than internal?\n\n\n	Does China’s social credit system represent an ideal we can strive for? What are the benefits and drawbacks to such a system?  https://www.wsj.com/articles/chinas-new-tool-for-social-control-a-credit-rating-for-everything-1480351590

SUMMARY:Jeffersonian Dinner: What is the Best Health Care System?
DESCRIPTION:Format\n\n\n 7 p.m.: Cocktails\, light conversation before seating.\n 7:30 p.m.: Moderator opens by explaining the ground rules.  Most important: No talking to your neighbor; we are having a whole-table conversation.\n Ask each person at the table to respond to the opening question.\n Moderator introduces a follow-up question to link the opening answers to the general theme of the evening.  This may propose a problem related to it that those at the table can address together.\n Let the discussion begin!  Moderator should keep the conversation relevant\, prevent side discussions from breaking up the table\, and ensure that no one or two people are overly dominant.\n 9:15 p.m.:  Moderator asks each person at the table to describe any ideas or thoughts they had during the discussion that they would like to follow up on or work with someone on . . . or just think about more.\n 9:30 p.m.:  End dinner.  Informal one-on-one conversations usually continue.\n\n\n\nMenu:\n\n\n\nPan-Seared Falafel\n\nHouse-made falafel\, seared – not fried\, and served with tangy\, dairy-free tzatziki sauce.\n\nSides: Quinoa “tabouleh” salad and marinated cucumber\, asparagus\, and kale with lemon & parsley\n\nKale and Spinach “Caesar”\n\nOrganic spinach and lacinto kale with cucumbers\, oven-roasted herbed tomatoes\, and almond “parmesan”\n\nHousemade Vegan Caesar\n\nSweet potato cornbread\n\nCatered from Kitchfix\n\nhttp://communitydining.com/blog/entrepreneurship-promotes-transparency (this is a blog post I wrote about Kitchfix)\n\n\n\nSnacks:\n \nAlmond Flour Crackers from Simple Mills\n \nhttps://www.simplemills.com/collections/almond-flour-crackers?gclid=EAIaIQobChMImKaFm8PV2QIVzLrACh0oRApjEAAYAiAAEgK9nfD_BwE\n\n\nNutrition bars from Simple Squares (tied for the highest rate snack bar!)\n \nhttps://simplesquares.com\n\nhttps://www.cornucopia.org/scorecard/snack-bar-scorecard\n\nMixed nuts from No Denial Foods\n\nhttps://nodenialfoods.com/collections/frontpage\n\n\n\nDessert:\n\nMuffins and chocolate chip cookies from Simple Mills.\n\n\nhttps://www.simplemills.com/products/pumpkin-muffin-mix\n\nhttps://www.simplemills.com/collections/crunchy-cookies\n\nVinegar Chess and Coconut Custard Pie from Hoosier Mama Pie Company\n\nwww.hoosiermamapie.com\n\n\nDrinks:\n \nCider from Virtue Cider\n\nhttp://www.virtuecider.com/\n\nOrganic red and white whine from Girasole Vineyards\n\nhttp://www.girasolevineyards.com/\n\n \n\nFor those of you who have not shared a photo and personal bio\, please do as I like to share this information with each guest.  It’s also part of the spirit of Jeffersonian Dinners to create an atmosphere where people can get to know each other better.\n\nA few questions that I will pose to get people thinking are:\n\nWhat was the most memorable patient experience (positive or negative) you have had with our health care system?\n\nIs capitalism the optimal economic system for developing a healthy climate for creating a health care system that provides the highest quality care for the most people at the lowest cost?\n\nHow can we address privacy concerns about our medical information?  Does the need for collecting medical data for public health reporting purposes outweigh our right to privacy?\n\nIs physician autonomy necessary to drive the best results?  If so\, how can we protect doctors’ ability to make medical decisions?  Or do we need a more automated set of rules that drive doctor’s decisions?\n\nShould nurses have the freedom to treat patients independently of doctors?  What effect would this freedom have on our health care system?\n\nHow can we create a system that maximizes innovation?  Here are two contrasting articles:\n\nhttp://www.pnhp.org/news/2007/november/does_universal_healt.php\n\nhttps://fee.org/articles/markets-run-health-care-better-than-government-mandates/\n\nHere is a further description of the format.  Please let me know if you have any questions!\n\nThe Rule:\n\n You must have a single conversation. You talk to the whole table and the whole table listens. The whole time. That’s 8 to 14 brains on one topic. It’s powerful and unique.\n\nThe progress of the evening:\n\n Come with a list of 5 or 7 questions you might pose to deepen the conversation as it progresses.\n2. Begin with your guests’ stories. Each person shares a personal reflection on the question you posed ahead of the dinner. Try to connect with their personal passions around the topic.\n3. Let the conversation take you where the passion goes.\n4. As the host\, insure that all participants feel welcome and have a chance to talk. Don’t run it like a meeting (“Joe\, we haven’t heard from you yet”) but as a congenial dinner party (“Joe\, I’d love to hear more about how you feel about [something that you know about Joe and how he feels].” Bottom line is this (as it was for Mr. Jefferson) it’s all about human beings connecting with each other.\n5. Give your guests an opportunity to share something at the end of the evening – something that they learned\, an idea that was especially inspiring or an item they plan to follow-up on in some way. Depending on the purpose of your event\, you may wish to formalize this more (next steps\, notes from the evening\, etc).\n\nAfter your dinner:\n\n Share contact information from the evening – this can be a simple email to thank all the participants.

At Fresh Farms we have built our mission and operating philosophy upon the unique customers and over three decades worth of daily experiences we have had that\, when brought together\, form our community. \nWe know that a grocery store’s success is built upon the ability to identify and cater to the specific needs of the store’s community. We provide interior design\, space panning\, floor plans renderings and procurement based primarily on the product selection in our showroom. In some cases\, we manage installations\, minor build-outs and specification of supplemental products such as countertops\, appliances\, plumbing fixtures\, lighting and more that we source elsewhere. \nWhile our primary focus is on contemporary European kitchen cabinets and vanity sets\, we have a great selection of virtually all home furnishings and other remodeling products\, such as closet systems (walk-in and wardrobes)\, beds and bedroom furniture\, living and dining room furniture and home décor. In early 2014 we’ve created Tangible Interiors with it’s own showroom and online presence (www.tangibleinteriors.com) to farther promote products described above. \nGene Sokol\, the founder of Euroluxe Interiors\, has over 15 years of experience in supplying European remodeling products to the United States.  The journey into this field began for Gene in 2003 when he started working as a managing partner of Ernida LLC where he introduced a high end line of cabinetry from Czech Republic along with interior doors from Italy and other products to customers throughout U.S.  During his time at Ernida\, he specialized in supplying cabinetry to a booming residential development market working closely with individual customers\, designers\, architects and developers. \nIn 2009\, Gene took his practice to the next level by heading up his own firm – Euroluxe Interiors.  He continued to expand and diversify by developing more trade contacts in Italy\, the world leader in home furnishing and design.  In April 2010\, Gene traveled to Eurocucina 2010\, trade fair in Milan that is considered the most important event for the trade worldwide.  While browsing displays of the most innovative and respected companies\, he reinforced previously developed contacts and built many new business relationships.  As a result\, Euroluxe Interiors is able to offer a wide range of products far beyond what was previously offered by Ernida LLC and includes several kitchen\, doors and vanity set manufacturers\, shower and closet systems\, various furniture and even custom carpet makers. \n“European Luxury Within Reach” is what we offer to our demanding customers by carefully researching design\, budget and technical requirements of the project\, providing comprehensive plans and estimates\, facilitating speedy and safe delivery and following up during installation to insure 100% customer satisfaction.  We have direct relationship with our European suppliers\, without costly “middleman” companies\, thus insuring the best price possible is passed to the end consumer.

SUMMARY:Food\, Family\, and Community: Celebrate Mother's Day with State Rep. La Shawn Ford (Sold Out!)
DESCRIPTION:Please RSVP to repford@lashawnford.com \nMother’s Day is a celebration honoring the mother of the family as well as motherhood\, maternal bonds\, and the influence of mothers in society.  Please join 8th District State Representative La Shawn Ford\, Community Dining\, and BUILD for a special complimentary Mother’s Day brunch prepared with love and reverence that celebrates the valuable contributions our mothers make and shows how a thoughtful and intentional shared meal can transcend barriers and unify people from all walks of life.\nPerhaps now\, more than ever\, we could consider how Community Dining can help us rediscover the means of human interaction that we inherently know benefits us all – one in which we are free to connect with one another and create our own experiences with people we never would have met where authentic community naturally flourishes and ideas can peacefully collide to produce a greater body of knowledge and shared understanding. \n \n“Brighter days are ahead of us all. I am passionate about building effective relationships as well as building bridges to success\, meeting the needs of all.” – La Shawn K. Ford \n\n\n\n\n\nBorn to an unwed teenage mother in the Cabrini-Green housing projects in Chicago\, never knowing his father\, and adopted by his grandmother at birth\, La Shawn K. Ford started his life with few material advantages. Growing up in the Austin and Englewood communities in Chicago\, he attended Catholic elementary and high schools by the hard work\, tenacity and love of a supportive family and community.  Ford learned the value of hard work and made money for his family by shoveling snow\, mowing lawns\, collecting bottles and cans for recycling\, and stocking produce in the local grocery store.  Being a good student\, Ford became the first in his family to attend a four year college when he entered Niles College Seminary and then Loyola University Chicago\, where he played on the basketball team and earned a Bachelor of Science in Education with a minor in Political Science.  For six years\, Ford taught elementary school social studies and coached basketball in the Chicago Public Schools.  As a licensed Real Estate Broker\, he founded his own real estate business\, Ford Desired Real Estate.  He is an Illinois Licensed Insurance Agent and continues to be licensed as a teacher.  He is the proud father of his daughter\, Tia.\n\nBecause of his drive to increase social justice and address disparities in areas such as jobs\, education\, health\, increasing opportunities for ex-offenders\, small business development and housing\, Ford was elected as state representative in 2006.  He was re-elected in 2008\, 2010\, 2012 and 2014 and represents a diverse district which includes the West Side of Chicago and the near western suburbs.\n\n\n\n\n \nSince 1969\, BUILD (Broader Urban Involvement & Leadership Development) has been a pioneer and innovator in youth development\, now serving neighborhoods on Chicago’s West (Austin\, Humboldt Park\, Hermosa\, West Town) and South (Fuller Park\, Bronzeville) Sides. Through three primary program areas — Prevention\, Intervention\, and BUILDing Futures — BUILD partners with an array of stakeholders to offer a spectrum of services designed to build lives and futures. Whether by providing a school-based curriculum\, youth leadership opportunities\, positive out-ofschool activities or intensive\, individualized mentoring\, all of BUILD’s programs share the same objectives: \n\n\n to reduce negative behaviors\, school expulsions and withdrawals\, recidivism rates\, and court and gang involvement\, and\n to increase pro-social behaviors\, school readiness and success\, college access\, and opportunities for happy\, productive futures.\n\nMission \nBUILD’s mission is to engage at-risk youth in the schools and on the streets\, so they can realize their educational and career potential and contribute to the stability\, safety and well being of our communities. \n\nVision: Grow Hope. Save Lives. BUILD Futures.\nBUILD believes that every child deserves a bright future regardless of individual challenges or neighborhood barriers. To transform children’s lives from at-risk to at-hope\, BUILD provides comprehensive services across critical developmental milestones\, meeting young people where they are: in the schools\, on the streets\, or in the courts. Providing continuity in communities that too often face disruption\, isolation and change\, BUILD strives to be a constant and trusted resource for youth whether they are struggling to stay in school and out of gangs\, or striving to go to college and build a career.

SUMMARY:Conscious Capitalism: The Social Impact of Entrepreneurship with State Rep. Scott Drury (Including SOCIAL Sparkling Wine & Honey Bee Tea)
DESCRIPTION:Join Community Dining\, Lee Capps from the Chicago Chapter of Conscious Capitalism\, Illinois State Representative Scott Drury\, and social impact food entreprenerus for dinner sourced from sustainable farms with reverence for the means by which we fuel ourselves prepared by Chef Dominic Zumpano and an evening focused on the value of social entrepreneurship at The Gallery in Lake Forest. \nSign up here: \nhttps://socialimpactentrepreneurship.eventbrite.com \nEntrepreneurial endeavors have a foundation rooted in voluntary activities that foster goodwill and friendship.  These types of activities naturally bring people together by seeking creative solutions to social problems that involve cooperation for our collective benefit.  Elected officials who intuitively understand the value of entrepreneurship can help build vibrant communities and instill an environment that encourages innovation and risk-taking rather than one built on fear and control. \nPerhaps now\, more than ever\, we could consider how Community Dining can help us rediscover the means of human interaction that we inherently know benefits us all – one in which we are free to connect with one another and create our own experiences with people we never would have met where authentic community naturally flourishes and ideas can peacefully collide to produce a greater body of knowledge and shared understanding.  Maybe then we will begin to realize that we can thrive simply through mutual cooperation. \nFormat: \n6:00 to 6:45:  Cocktails\n6:45 pm – 9:00 pm:  Dinner/Program \n \n\n \n \nConscious Capitalism – sounds like an oxymoron.  But\, what would be possible if we engaged in business from a more intentional\, conscious purpose?  Conscious Capitalism is a movement to foster business that is purpose-driven and values-based\, led by conscious leaders and serving all of its stakeholders.  Lee Capps\, a leader in the Chicago Chapter\, will join us to share more about this important\, timely movement\, and how it is alive and well in the Chicago area. \n \nState Representative Scott Drury grew up in Highland Park and now lives with his family in Highwood.  Serving since 2013\, Representative Drury is widely known as one of the most independent and thoughtful legislators in the Illinois General Assembly.  In 2017\, Representative Drury introduced the “People’s Plan” – a set of fifteen legislative proposals designed to tackle Illinois’ most vexing structural problems\, including endemic public corruption\, a massive backlog of unpaid bills and an unfair election system.  Before running for office\, Representative Drury was an Assistant United States Attorney in Chicago. \nFood Artisans and Entrepreneurs\n \n\nThe answer is simple… \nIn 2012 Meg Barnhart\, Founder and Co-Creator of the zen of slow cooking\, wanted to create a business that could employ individuals with learning challenges  – adults like her son\, Doug.  When she started slow cooking in 2006 to ease her mom-guilt and get a healthy dinner on the table she never imagined the slow cooker would be a vehicle for change.  With her vision in place\, she began looking for a partner to help turn her dream into a reality..\n\nA few weeks later she was introduced to Jane McKay who would become her partner and Co-Creator of the zen of slow cooking.\n\n5 years later they transformed their slow cooking food blog into a social enterprise by creating a line of premium spice blends crafted exclusively for the slow cooker.\n\nIn addition to bringing a little Zen into the kitchen of the home cook their spice blends also provide employment for adults with developmental disabilities through their relationship with Planet Access Company.\n \nWe started Chapín Coffee because we believe that every child has the right to grow to their full potential.  It began with an idea: what if we could transform our passion for specialty coffee into a force to end chronic childhood malnutrition in Guatemala?  Five years and many beans later\, that’s exactly what Chapín Coffee is empowering coffee lovers to do. For every bag of coffee you buy\, Chapín serves school meals to children living in rural Guatemala through our partnership with the NGO Pueblo a Pueblo.  Your purchase of Chapín Coffee helps to end hunger in the coffee-growing communities of Guatemala\, where 3 of every 4 kids suffer from chronic malnutrition. \nThank you for changing the lives of these children\, one cup of coffee at a time! \n\nGotham Greens is a global pioneer in the field of urban agriculture and a leading regional producer of hyper-local\, premium-quality vegetables and herbs.  Gotham Greens’ pesticide-free produce is grown using ecologically sustainable methods in technologically-sophisticated\, 100% clean energy powered\, climate-controlled urban greenhouses.  Gotham Greens provides its diverse retail\, restaurant\, and institutional customers with a local\, reliable\, year-round supply of produce grown under the highest standards of food safety and environmental sustainability.  The company has built and operates over 170\,000 square feet of greenhouse across 4 facilities in New York and Chicago.  Gotham Greens was a recipient of the 2015 Martha Stewart “American Made” award and was founded in 2009 in Brooklyn\, New York.  www.gothamgreens.com \n \n\n\nMeg Dhamer created Pigtale Twist\, which is named after a fairytale her grandmother would tell her about a little pig who worked his land in the French countryside.  At night\, as he worked in his barn\, the town’s children saw the glow of his lamp through the windows.  Night after night the children visited the barn\, and the little pig would read fairytales to them. In her favorite story\, the pigs were preparing a fabulous feast for their friends.  She remembers thinking\, “I’m going to do that some day.” And now it’s come true. \nMeg’s goal was a way of supporting her family\, satisfying her insatiable love of cooking\, lavish entertaining and a way to give back to her community some of the blessings she had been given. \nMeg and her family\, her mother\, Elaine\, Daisey\, Teddy\, and pup\, Oliver\, reside in Illinois.  Meg has an amazing talent for creating incredible meals with an opulent flair and now shares them with you! Every dining experience expresses her special passion for spectacular presentation and bursting flavors. \n \n\n\nFounded in 2012\, The Veteran Beer Company is dedicated to providing lives of quality for military Veterans through the creation of meaningful post-service careers. \nThe company produces\, sells\, and delivers craft beers of superior quality\, striving to employ Veterans in every role within the organization.  Whenever possible\, we use Veteran-owned small businesses in our supply chain and insist that the entire supply chain have a Veteran-first hiring policy.\n\nOur employees—all Veterans of the US military–adhere to the highest principles of military service\, conducting business with integrity\, courage\, and loyalty.\n\nImportantly\, 10% percent of everything we make goes to charities that support Veterans causes; the other 90% goes to employ Veterans.\n\n\nTeaSquares are energy snacks infused with naturally occurring caffeine from organic tea.  Each bite-size square is light and airy\, packed with wholesome puffed millet\, crunchy almonds\, and flavorful fruits.  We have a social mission of supporting economic development in urban communities\, and manufacture TeaSquares in the Englewood neighborhood. \nThe Gallery \n \n \nWe are a creative space that houses + showcases art of all mediums.  Our residents include Artists on the Bluff\, a Photography studio and Culinary studio.
