Fresh Farms grew with the community and still operates this location today which has become a main source of the community’s unique food needs. At Fresh Farms we have built our mission and operating philosophy upon the unique customers and over three decades worth of daily experiences we have had that\, when brought together\, form our community. \nWe know that a grocery store’s success is built upon the ability to identify and cater to the specific needs of the store’s community. We also understand the importance of consistent quality for our customers. We care about our animals and we care about our products.  We’re lucky in Australia – we’ve got more than we need. Great produce\, healthy products and abundant choice.  We’d like to share that with you.  That means you can enjoy top quality Australian cuts of meat whenever you want.  Our food\, your table\, enjoyed the world-over. \nFor more information\, please go to: \nhttp://www.australian-meat.com/ \nhttp://www.australian-lamb.com/Lamb/ \nhttp://www.australian-beef.com/Beef/ \nFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/aussiebeeflamb \nInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/aussiebeeflamb/ \n \nEuroluxe Interiors (www.euroluxeinteriors.com) is an established business\, continuously growing and evolving\, offering a unique combination of professional design service in conjunction with a wide variety of modern cabinetry\, interior doors\, bathroom vanities and transformable furniture – all offered through one studio showroom. We provide interior design\, space panning\, floor plans renderings and procurement based primarily on the product selection in our showroom. In some cases\, we manage installations\, minor build-outs and specification of supplemental products such as countertops\, appliances\, plumbing fixtures\, lighting and more that we source elsewhere. \nWhile our primary focus is on contemporary European kitchen cabinets and vanity sets\, we have a great selection of virtually all home furnishings and other remodeling products\, such as closet systems (walk-in and wardrobes)\, beds and bedroom furniture\, living and dining room furniture and home décor. In early 2014 we’ve created Tangible Interiors with it’s own showroom and online presence (www.tangibleinteriors.com) to farther promote products described above. \nGene Sokol\, the founder of Euroluxe Interiors\, has over 15 years of experience in supplying European remodeling products to the United States.  The journey into this field began for Gene in 2003 when he started working as a managing partner of Ernida LLC where he introduced a high end line of cabinetry from Czech Republic along with interior doors from Italy and other products to customers throughout U.S.  During his time at Ernida\, he specialized in supplying cabinetry to a booming residential development market working closely with individual customers\, designers\, architects and developers. \nIn 2009\, Gene took his practice to the next level by heading up his own firm – Euroluxe Interiors.  He continued to expand and diversify by developing more trade contacts in Italy\, the world leader in home furnishing and design.  In April 2010\, Gene traveled to Eurocucina 2010\, trade fair in Milan that is considered the most important event for the trade worldwide.  While browsing displays of the most innovative and respected companies\, he reinforced previously developed contacts and built many new business relationships.  As a result\, Euroluxe Interiors is able to offer a wide range of products far beyond what was previously offered by Ernida LLC and includes several kitchen\, doors and vanity set manufacturers\, shower and closet systems\, various furniture and even custom carpet makers. \n“European Luxury Within Reach” is what we offer to our demanding customers by carefully researching design\, budget and technical requirements of the project\, providing comprehensive plans and estimates\, facilitating speedy and safe delivery and following up during installation to insure 100% customer satisfaction.  We have direct relationship with our European suppliers\, without costly “middleman” companies\, thus insuring the best price possible is passed to the end consumer.

SUMMARY:Food\, Family\, and Community: Celebrate Mother's Day with State Rep. La Shawn Ford (Sold Out!)
DESCRIPTION:Please RSVP to repford@lashawnford.com \nMother’s Day is a celebration honoring the mother of the family as well as motherhood\, maternal bonds\, and the influence of mothers in society.  Please join 8th District State Representative La Shawn Ford\, Community Dining\, and BUILD for a special complimentary Mother’s Day brunch prepared with love and reverence that celebrates the valuable contributions our mothers make and shows how a thoughtful and intentional shared meal can transcend barriers and unify people from all walks of life.\nPerhaps now\, more than ever\, we could consider how Community Dining can help us rediscover the means of human interaction that we inherently know benefits us all – one in which we are free to connect with one another and create our own experiences with people we never would have met where authentic community naturally flourishes and ideas can peacefully collide to produce a greater body of knowledge and shared understanding. \n \n“Brighter days are ahead of us all. I am passionate about building effective relationships as well as building bridges to success\, meeting the needs of all.” – La Shawn K. Ford \n\n\n\n\n\nBorn to an unwed teenage mother in the Cabrini-Green housing projects in Chicago\, never knowing his father\, and adopted by his grandmother at birth\, La Shawn K. Ford started his life with few material advantages. Growing up in the Austin and Englewood communities in Chicago\, he attended Catholic elementary and high schools by the hard work\, tenacity and love of a supportive family and community.  Ford learned the value of hard work and made money for his family by shoveling snow\, mowing lawns\, collecting bottles and cans for recycling\, and stocking produce in the local grocery store.  Being a good student\, Ford became the first in his family to attend a four year college when he entered Niles College Seminary and then Loyola University Chicago\, where he played on the basketball team and earned a Bachelor of Science in Education with a minor in Political Science.  For six years\, Ford taught elementary school social studies and coached basketball in the Chicago Public Schools.  As a licensed Real Estate Broker\, he founded his own real estate business\, Ford Desired Real Estate.  He is an Illinois Licensed Insurance Agent and continues to be licensed as a teacher.  He is the proud father of his daughter\, Tia.\n\nBecause of his drive to increase social justice and address disparities in areas such as jobs\, education\, health\, increasing opportunities for ex-offenders\, small business development and housing\, Ford was elected as state representative in 2006.  He was re-elected in 2008\, 2010\, 2012 and 2014 and represents a diverse district which includes the West Side of Chicago and the near western suburbs.\n\n\n\n\n \nSince 1969\, BUILD (Broader Urban Involvement & Leadership Development) has been a pioneer and innovator in youth development\, now serving neighborhoods on Chicago’s West (Austin\, Humboldt Park\, Hermosa\, West Town) and South (Fuller Park\, Bronzeville) Sides. Through three primary program areas — Prevention\, Intervention\, and BUILDing Futures — BUILD partners with an array of stakeholders to offer a spectrum of services designed to build lives and futures. Whether by providing a school-based curriculum\, youth leadership opportunities\, positive out-ofschool activities or intensive\, individualized mentoring\, all of BUILD’s programs share the same objectives: \n\n\n to reduce negative behaviors\, school expulsions and withdrawals\, recidivism rates\, and court and gang involvement\, and\n to increase pro-social behaviors\, school readiness and success\, college access\, and opportunities for happy\, productive futures.\n\nMission \nBUILD’s mission is to engage at-risk youth in the schools and on the streets\, so they can realize their educational and career potential and contribute to the stability\, safety and well being of our communities. \n\nVision: Grow Hope. Save Lives. BUILD Futures.\nBUILD believes that every child deserves a bright future regardless of individual challenges or neighborhood barriers. To transform children’s lives from at-risk to at-hope\, BUILD provides comprehensive services across critical developmental milestones\, meeting young people where they are: in the schools\, on the streets\, or in the courts. Providing continuity in communities that too often face disruption\, isolation and change\, BUILD strives to be a constant and trusted resource for youth whether they are struggling to stay in school and out of gangs\, or striving to go to college and build a career.

DESCRIPTION:Join Community Dining\, Lee Capps from the Chicago Chapter of Conscious Capitalism\, Illinois State Representative Scott Drury\, and social impact food entreprenerus for dinner sourced from sustainable farms with reverence for the means by which we fuel ourselves prepared by Chef Dominic Zumpano and an evening focused on the value of social entrepreneurship at The Gallery in Lake Forest. \nSign up here: \nhttps://socialimpactentrepreneurship.eventbrite.com \nEntrepreneurial endeavors have a foundation rooted in voluntary activities that foster goodwill and friendship.  These types of activities naturally bring people together by seeking creative solutions to social problems that involve cooperation for our collective benefit.  Elected officials who intuitively understand the value of entrepreneurship can help build vibrant communities and instill an environment that encourages innovation and risk-taking rather than one built on fear and control. \nPerhaps now\, more than ever\, we could consider how Community Dining can help us rediscover the means of human interaction that we inherently know benefits us all – one in which we are free to connect with one another and create our own experiences with people we never would have met where authentic community naturally flourishes and ideas can peacefully collide to produce a greater body of knowledge and shared understanding.  Maybe then we will begin to realize that we can thrive simply through mutual cooperation. \nFormat: \n6:00 to 6:45:  Cocktails\n6:45 pm – 9:00 pm:  Dinner/Program \n \n\n \n \nConscious Capitalism – sounds like an oxymoron.  But\, what would be possible if we engaged in business from a more intentional\, conscious purpose?  Conscious Capitalism is a movement to foster business that is purpose-driven and values-based\, led by conscious leaders and serving all of its stakeholders.  Lee Capps\, a leader in the Chicago Chapter\, will join us to share more about this important\, timely movement\, and how it is alive and well in the Chicago area. \n \nState Representative Scott Drury grew up in Highland Park and now lives with his family in Highwood.  Serving since 2013\, Representative Drury is widely known as one of the most independent and thoughtful legislators in the Illinois General Assembly.  In 2017\, Representative Drury introduced the “People’s Plan” – a set of fifteen legislative proposals designed to tackle Illinois’ most vexing structural problems\, including endemic public corruption\, a massive backlog of unpaid bills and an unfair election system.  Before running for office\, Representative Drury was an Assistant United States Attorney in Chicago. \nFood Artisans and Entrepreneurs\n \n\nThe answer is simple… \nIn 2012 Meg Barnhart\, Founder and Co-Creator of the zen of slow cooking\, wanted to create a business that could employ individuals with learning challenges  – adults like her son\, Doug.  When she started slow cooking in 2006 to ease her mom-guilt and get a healthy dinner on the table she never imagined the slow cooker would be a vehicle for change.  With her vision in place\, she began looking for a partner to help turn her dream into a reality..\n\nA few weeks later she was introduced to Jane McKay who would become her partner and Co-Creator of the zen of slow cooking.\n\n5 years later they transformed their slow cooking food blog into a social enterprise by creating a line of premium spice blends crafted exclusively for the slow cooker.\n\nIn addition to bringing a little Zen into the kitchen of the home cook their spice blends also provide employment for adults with developmental disabilities through their relationship with Planet Access Company.\n \nWe started Chapín Coffee because we believe that every child has the right to grow to their full potential.  It began with an idea: what if we could transform our passion for specialty coffee into a force to end chronic childhood malnutrition in Guatemala?  Five years and many beans later\, that’s exactly what Chapín Coffee is empowering coffee lovers to do. For every bag of coffee you buy\, Chapín serves school meals to children living in rural Guatemala through our partnership with the NGO Pueblo a Pueblo.  Your purchase of Chapín Coffee helps to end hunger in the coffee-growing communities of Guatemala\, where 3 of every 4 kids suffer from chronic malnutrition. \nThank you for changing the lives of these children\, one cup of coffee at a time! \n\nGotham Greens is a global pioneer in the field of urban agriculture and a leading regional producer of hyper-local\, premium-quality vegetables and herbs.  Gotham Greens’ pesticide-free produce is grown using ecologically sustainable methods in technologically-sophisticated\, 100% clean energy powered\, climate-controlled urban greenhouses.  Gotham Greens provides its diverse retail\, restaurant\, and institutional customers with a local\, reliable\, year-round supply of produce grown under the highest standards of food safety and environmental sustainability.  The company has built and operates over 170\,000 square feet of greenhouse across 4 facilities in New York and Chicago.  Gotham Greens was a recipient of the 2015 Martha Stewart “American Made” award and was founded in 2009 in Brooklyn\, New York.  www.gothamgreens.com \n \n\n\nMeg Dhamer created Pigtale Twist\, which is named after a fairytale her grandmother would tell her about a little pig who worked his land in the French countryside.  At night\, as he worked in his barn\, the town’s children saw the glow of his lamp through the windows.  Night after night the children visited the barn\, and the little pig would read fairytales to them. In her favorite story\, the pigs were preparing a fabulous feast for their friends.  She remembers thinking\, “I’m going to do that some day.” And now it’s come true. \nMeg’s goal was a way of supporting her family\, satisfying her insatiable love of cooking\, lavish entertaining and a way to give back to her community some of the blessings she had been given. \nMeg and her family\, her mother\, Elaine\, Daisey\, Teddy\, and pup\, Oliver\, reside in Illinois.  Meg has an amazing talent for creating incredible meals with an opulent flair and now shares them with you! Every dining experience expresses her special passion for spectacular presentation and bursting flavors. \n \n\n\nFounded in 2012\, The Veteran Beer Company is dedicated to providing lives of quality for military Veterans through the creation of meaningful post-service careers. \nThe company produces\, sells\, and delivers craft beers of superior quality\, striving to employ Veterans in every role within the organization.  Whenever possible\, we use Veteran-owned small businesses in our supply chain and insist that the entire supply chain have a Veteran-first hiring policy.\n\nOur employees—all Veterans of the US military–adhere to the highest principles of military service\, conducting business with integrity\, courage\, and loyalty.\n\nImportantly\, 10% percent of everything we make goes to charities that support Veterans causes; the other 90% goes to employ Veterans.\n\n\nTeaSquares are energy snacks infused with naturally occurring caffeine from organic tea.  Each bite-size square is light and airy\, packed with wholesome puffed millet\, crunchy almonds\, and flavorful fruits.  We have a social mission of supporting economic development in urban communities\, and manufacture TeaSquares in the Englewood neighborhood. \nThe Gallery \n \n \nWe are a creative space that houses + showcases art of all mediums.  Our residents include Artists on the Bluff\, a Photography studio and Culinary studio.

We taste everything we put on our shelves\, so you can explore and expand your palate knowing that even the least expensive bottles have met our rigorous standards and\, more importantly\, have been well-received by our customers. \nWHAT WE BELIEVE IN  \nOur search to bring you some of the world’s most exciting wines always begins with the land.We believe great wines come from great fruit. And great fruit is achieved by creating the healthiest environment in the vineyard. \nWe go out of our way to support vineyards that employ thoughtful farming practices and intervene only minimally in the land and the fruit. This philosophy lends itself to creating wines that speak of their specific origins\, that are still alive in the bottle and that are active on the palate. \nGuest Speaker: \nMarsh Skeele\, co-founder of Sitka Salmon Shares\, will speak about the seafood industry and how Sitka Salmon Shares got started.  You don’t want to miss this! \n \nOur story begins in 2011\, when a Midwestern college professor\, Nic\, and his two students traveled to Sitka\, Alaska\, for the summer.  There\, they engaged in conversations and deepened their understanding of the importance of protecting Southeast Alaska’s wild salmon populations and the pristine environment that supports one of the world’s last great salmon reserves. \nThey returned to the Midwest with boxes of line-caught\, wild Alaskan salmon\, harvested by their fisher friends in Sitka.  To say the fish was well-received would be an understatement.  People raved about the salmon’s taste and were impressed by its traceability.  They quickly made the connection between their consumption and the impact this small act could have on conservation efforts and the health of Alaska’s sustainable fisheries. Perhaps\, the group thought\, they were on to something. \nWhile in Alaska\, this band of merry Midwesterners met Marsh.  Marsh was the self-styled foodie and passionate gourmand of Sitka’s hook-and-line salmon fleet.  A local legend on the Sitka dinner party circuit\, Marsh’s favorite pastime included sourcing ingredients from the wilds of Southeast Alaska and elevating them with techniques learned from stints in professional kitchens. \nAs you might suspect\, Marsh’s quest for perfect food spilled into his work as a commercial fisherman.  He obsessively handled his fish every step of the way to guarantee that eaters on the other end of his line enjoyed the perfection he sought in his own kitchen—including his family down in the proud town of Green Bay\, Wisconsin. \nWith a lot of passion and even more luck\, Sitka Salmon Shares was born. \nSitka Salmon Shares is now a completely integrated boat-to-doorstep seafood company.  We have a lovable group of fishermen-owners who deliver our fish.  We have a small processing plant in Sitka\, Alaska\, where we custom-process our catch with a laser focus on quality and traceability.  And we have two Good-Fish Hubs in the Midwest\, which allow us to deliver our fishermen’s catch directly to your doorstep (or to your local farmers market or restaurant). \nAt Sitka Salmon Shares\, you’re joining a community of artisan fishers\, healthy eaters\, foodies\, and Alaskan adventurers in our collective efforts to rebuild America’s seafood system from the ground up.  All of us together are actively supporting sustainably sourced seafood and independent\, family fishermen who fish in much the same way their grandparents did. \nIngredient sourcing: \n \n\n\nWe connect Chicago to the best of the Midwest\nWe work directly with Midwest brands and vendors to ensure quality\, freshness\, robust community and support of our local food systems. \nSpecial Sales at Local Foods: \nThird Tuesday of every month: \nSpecials on Mighty Vine tomatoes:  2 retail cases of cherry tomatoes for $4 (usually $6 ) \nTomatoes on Vine: $0.99 (usually $2.99) \nYellow beefsteak tomatoes: $1.49 (usually $2.99) \nCherry tomatoes on vine: $1.99 (usually $3.99) \nEvery Wednesday: \n25% off all wine \nThird Wednesday of every month: \n30% off all produce and 50% off select produce

SUMMARY:Garden to Table Pop-Up Dinner Series: Food as Medicine
DESCRIPTION:Join Community Dining\, The Yellow Tractor Project\, and Dr. Geeta-Maker Clark who will speak about the value of engaging in the means by which we fuel oursevles for an evening filled with nutrient-dense\, healing\, and garden-fresh food prepared by skilled home cook Hanne Dobre at Euroluxe Interiors\, a Chicago based direct supplier of Italian cabinetry\, interior doors\, vanity sets\, shower cabins\, walk-in closets and other products.\n\n \n\n\n\n \nSign up here: \nhttps://gardentotablepopup.eventbrite.com\n \n\nThe Yellow Tractor Project was founded on the belief that the first step toward a healthier nation and a healthier world lies quite simply in how we nourish our bodies and that everyone should have access to a healthy diet as a human right. \nThrough the simple act of creating a garden\, we empower individuals and organizations to lead and to deliver better health\, nutrition\, and well-being by making gardening accessible everywhere.\n\nTo that end\, we provide all necessary quality and environmentally-responsible materials and ongoing education to sustain gardening success. The Yellow Tractor Project holistically brings the knowledge and resources to grow fresh\, healthy and affordable food anywhere\, concentrating especially in underserved areas.\nWendy Irwin \n \nWendy Irwin believes that the first step toward a healthier nation and world lies\, quite simply\, in how we nourish our bodies. \nIn 2009\, Wendy co-founded The Yellow Tractor Project (YTP)\, a non-profit organization whose mission is to empower people to lead heathy lives by making gardening accessible everywhere.\n\nAiming now to reach adults where they spend most of their lives\, in the workplace\, Wendy founded Yellow Tractor\, a social enterprise and market leader creating garden-based wellness in the workplace.  Yellow Tractor combines nature\, education and technologies to promote healthy lifestyles and well-being.\n\nShe holds a B.A. in Philosophy and English from the University of Texas and Post Graduate Certification in Research\, with a concentration in Case Law.\n\nWendy was named by Good Magazine\, in collaboration with GAP\, a member of the GOOD100\, a community of global change-makers who demonstrate what it means to be a global citizen.  She is active in Social Enterprise Chicago (SEA) and serves on the Social Impact Leadership Council for New Sector Alliance.  Yellow Tractor is a Goodcity Chicago winner and was nominated for a Chicago Innovation Award.\nGeeta-Maker Clark\, M.D. \n\n\n \nDr. Maker-Clark has always held the belief that any meaningful healing must involve the mind\, body and spirit\, and that whenever possible the most natural and least invasive intervention serves the highest good of the person. She has pursued study with traditional healers\, midwives\, herbalists and energy healers in many countries around the world including Brazil\, Belize\, India\, Venezuela and Cuba and is fluent in Hindi and Spanish. \nShe is a graduate of the University of Arizona Fellowship in Integrative Medicine\, under the supervision and mentorship of Dr. Andrew Weil\, and recently travelled with him to Cuba to study the system of natural medicine that has been In place there for many years.\n\nShe is a certified prenatal yoga instructor\, and a practicing yogini for the last 20 years.\n\nDr. Maker-Clark relies heavily on the use of food as medicine in her approach to healing\, as well as herbs\, botanicals\, breath work\, conventional medicines and healing practitioners in the community. She has lectured widely on the use of the anti-inflammatory diet to the medical community and to the public at farmers markets\, yoga festivals\, community organizations\, schools\, and through her popular Food as Medicine classes with Chef Ellen King.\n\nShe is on the board of several groups including:\n\n\n The Heartwood Women and Cancer program – a local foundation that provides integrative services to low income women with cancer.\n Food Tank – a think tank that offer solutions and environmentally sustainable ways of alleviating hunger\, obesity\, and poverty.\n Health and Medicine Policy Research group – a social justice organization dedicated to health care for all people.\n\n My Story – Living outside of the “box”\nAt one of my recent workshops\,- a yoga\, dance and food experience designed to release stress- a woman said to me “I have never met a doctor like you before\, you seem so….free!” That comment made me smile. Many of us in medicine are not enjoying it as we once did\, or as it is now….a system that rewards intervention and quick visits. \nI have managed to navigate a different route\, and that has brought me great satisfaction and the reward of helping people find a path to healing…. but it has been a route with many twists and turns.\n\nMy parents are from India and moved to Chicago in the 60’s when the US was recruiting doctors to come fill the gap. Growing up I was awed by the power that my father\, who is a surgeon\, had over his patients. It was not a wieldy\, controlling power\, but rather a gentle and kind trust that he created\, and when he took me to the hospital to round with him….I could see it and feel it. That seemed like the right kind of job for me. He showed me that being a doctor is not just a profession\, it is a calling and a noble one at that. My earliest thoughts of career were rooted in this concept of the great privilege a physician has to be able to explore and repair another human being.\n\nMy mother is an amazing cook\, and brought many of our family traditions into home life. When I was sick\, it was honey\, ginger and turmeric that went into my mouth\, though begrudgingly. Dinner was a mix of cooked vegetables and curries and onion\, and the house smelled of spice and savory when she was in the kitchen. It took me some time to appreciate these things\, but they were a part of my life nonetheless\, and became a part of the way that I learned how to heal and think about health.\n\n\nWe believe life is meant to be enjoyed and and that we enjoy life more when we are connecting with those we love & when we are healthy.  SOCIAL was created to enhance our precious moments and complement our healthy lifestyles.  Finally something actually good made by someone who really cares… \nA STORY ABOUT OUR FOUNDER \nDiagnosed with Thyroid Cancer at 26\, Leah Caplanis had to make a decision. \nShe’d spent 8 years in the corporate world working for NESTLE growing brands she didn’t believe in.  Healthy eating has always been a passion of hers and selling something she wasn’t in alignment with was making her stressed\, run down\, and uninspired. \nMeet Leah \nShe educated herself at the Hippocrates Health Institute and Kushi Institute of Macrobiotics\, and experienced first hand holistic modalities such as Ayurvedic\, Biofeedback\, Homeopathy\, Hyrdotherapy\, Bowen Therapy\, Sound Therapy\, and more.  She quit drinking for three years\, went vegan for three years\, and utilized herabl remedies to literally draw the cancer cells from her body. \nEven though spirituality was always important to her\, this healing journey brought Leah even closer to her faith and the validation that the mind is a powerful tool that creates our own realities. \nAfter three years not giving up on her goal to heal holistically\, Leah was healed from cancer. \nRedefining Sparkling Wine \nNow Leah is living the life she’s always wanted.  She is manifesting her dream lifestyle\, her dream of becoming an entrepreneur\, and serving others by providing something that she feels can make their lives better. \nGoing through cancer taught Leah the importance of CHOOSING to enjoy each day and that connecting with friends and family is #1.  She saw so many of the downsides alcohol was having on those around her and wanted to create an option that allows everyone freedom to connect AND enjoy alcohol\, tonight AND the next day.  The freedom to enjoy life!  And so she created SOCIAL Sparkling Wine. \n \nWe started Chapín Coffee because we believe that every child has the right to grow to their full potential. \nSpecial Offers: \n \nGuests as first time customers will also receive a unique $20 off promo code toward Eat Purely\, a great service that delivers chef-crafted\, all organic meals to resident’s doors in 20 minutes or less.\nGuests will also receive a $10 gift card for purchases of $50 or more (excluding alcohol) at Local Foods\, a food hub that sits at the center of a family of interconnected businesses built to increase responsible food processes (more about Local Foods below). \nIngredient sourcing: \n\nWe connect Chicago to the best\nof the Midwest\nWe work directly with Midwest brands and vendors to ensure\nquality\, freshness\, robust community and support of our local food systems. \nSpecial Sales at Local Foods (1427 W. Willow St. in Bucktown): \nThird Tuesday of every month: \nSpecials on Mighty Vine tomatoes:  2 retail cases of cherry tomatoes for $4 (usually $6) \nTomatoes on Vine: $0.99 (usually $2.99) \nYellow beefsteak tomatoes: $1.49 (usually $2.99) \nCherry tomatoes on vine: $1.99 (usually $3.99) \nEvery Wednesday: \n25% off all wine \nThird Wednesday of every month: \n30% off all produce and 50% off select produce \nHanne Dobre \n\nMe and my lovely husband Teo moved in 2002 to Chicago and we love this city.  I am German and Teo is Romanian and we cook mostly European food.  I am a cake and pastry lover and could bake just the whole day long.  We both enjoy to garden\, eat fresh veggies and fruits\, hand picked\, and sure it is without any pesticides. We also have 2 bee hives in our back yard and 2 quince trees\, just delicious. \nWhy I Share Meals \nlearning about new food and traditions from other people and enjoying great food without me cooking it and not having the atmosphere of a restaurant. \nPlaces I’ve Traveled \nI was living for 10 years in Romania and have traveled in this time to Hungary\, Austria\, Poland \, Slovakia\, Czech Republic. Holland\, Belgium\, France and Germany \nWhat I Read\, Watch\, and Listen To \nI love the Gaither Vocal Band\, Michael English and David Phelps. Biographies like from Joni or Billy Graham. Family Feud\, Seinfeld\, minute to win it\, animal planet\, how is it made and food network almost all shows. \nA Memory of a Home-Cooked Meal \nSitting at aunts Erikas table with the whole family and just feasting on all the great stuff she all the time made. Sitting at a nice set dining room table with the good china and having a advent coffee with all the great Christmas cookies and cakes we baked in the month of November\, just priceless. \nWho I’d Like to Have a Meal With \nBilly and Ruth Graham with Mother Theresa\, about feeding and serving people with all there heart. \n \n \nEuroluxe Interiors (www.euroluxeinteriors.com) is an established business\, continuously growing and evolving\, offering a unique combination of professional design service in conjunction with a wide variety of modern cabinetry\, interior doors\, bathroom vanities and transformable furniture – all offered through one studio showroom.

Varieties include Rooibos Vanilla\, Honeybush\, Green Rooibos and other delicious teas.  Hailing from South Africa\, red bush tea is caffeine-free and produces a sweet\, flavorful cup.  Rooibos is also known for its high mineral content and a wide array of antioxidants.  Our direct-trade advantage ensures superior taste\, freshness and value. \nThe rooibos bush (pron: ‘roy-bus’) grows only in the Cederberg Mountain range of South Africa.  It was first noted by botanist Carl Humberg in 1772 and in 1904\, was marketed as an herbal substitute for tea.  The difficulty of shipping tea during World War II boosted demand for rooibos\, which begn to be referred to as ‘Red Bush Tea’\, or simply ‘Red Tea’. \n“We work in extreme weather conditions.  WIth temperatures in excess of 40C\, harvest time is my favorite as we can see the reward for all our hard work and effort.”  \nNiklaas Slinger\, South African farmer \n\n\n \n \n\n\n \nKombucha is a probiotic drink made from tea.  Traditionally\, the kombucha culture (SCOBY) is added to a preparation of brewed black tea and sugar before 7-14 days are given for fermentation.  During that time\, the kombucha probiotics multiply\, colonize and ultimately metabolize sugars to produce the beneficial acids that give kombucha it’s unique flavor and qualities.\n\nARIZE kombucha is brewed with Imperial black tea (organic Pu Erh) and organic evaporated cane juice.  From start to finish\, it takes about 12 weeks to make a single batch of ARIZE; 6 times longer than a home-brew.  Our artisanal process produces a strong traditional kombucha with a balanced flavor and a bold mouthwatering bite.\n\nWhile we would love to source all our ingredients locally\, the majority our ingredients are not grown or produced in our region (such as tea and sugar). To stay true to our ethical commitment\, we partner with other local small businesses who share our ethics and values.\n\nFor our flavor infusions\, we use dry botanicals\, whole fruits and cold pressed roots (such as turmeric and ginger). We only use local\, organic and/or fairtrade ingredients.\n\nGinger is our most popular flavor and the unique creamy bourbon style taste of our Palo Santo kombucha has gained popularity among many local chefs and restaurateurs.  Our flavors\, such as our Orange Basil\, Hops\, Elderberry\, Spearmint\, and even The Original each have their own distinct and well defined taste profile. ”\n \nSmoke & Fire Supper Club provides a community-oriented atmosphere where attendees can share the joy of food and take part in what we consider to be the peak of our fragment of the food cycle.  The dishes we put together are vegetable forward and guided by the ethics of plant based cuisine\, without substitutions\, with the hopes of exploring and mastering the bounty of produce and grain that is available within our reach. \nWe source ethically grown Midwestern produce and grain within the season and transform it through fermentation\, preservation\, and cooking techniques that are reliant on the knowledge and skill in the hands of the cooks.  Thoughtful menu planning and small batch production are supplemented with composting to minimize and hopefully eliminate waste altogether.  Surrounding ourselves with individuals who enable and encourage growth amongst one another\, we continue to challenge ourselves to integrate global concepts in food\, old and new\, into the Midwestern kitchen. \n\n\n \n \n \n\nWe connect Chicago to the best of the Midwest\n \nWe work directly with Midwest brands and vendors to ensure quality\, freshness\, robust community and support of our local food systems.\n\n\nSpecial Sales at Local Foods: \n \nThird Tuesday of every month: \n \nSpecials on Mighty Vine tomatoes:  2 retail cases of cherry tomatoes for $4 (usually $6) \n \nTomatoes on Vine: $0.99 (usually $2.99) \n \nYellow beefsteak tomatoes: $1.49 (usually $2.99) \n \nCherry tomatoes on vine: $1.99 (usually $3.99)\n\n\nEvery Wednesday:\n\n \n25% off all wine \n \nThird Wednesday of every month:\n\n\n30% off all produce and 50% off select produce \n \nEvent Sponsor:\n\n\n \n  \n\n\nAppointmentsIQ is an on-demand outsourced sales team.  We are a Full Service Appointment Setting Solution that gives you access to a vast network of decision makers and sales consultants.  Our services include: Networking Event Promotion\, Sales Coaching\, Lead Generation and Sales Recruiting.

SUMMARY:Global Culinary Activism Series with Nari Safavi at Euroluxe Interiors
DESCRIPTION:We live in an era that is begging for innovative activism approaches.  Food has always been a bonding agent in the history of humanity and its potential as a conduit for conveying ideas has only come to fore recently. Combining the experience of travel\, learning from chefs who wanted to change the world\, with food’s ability to humanize cultures to one another; you may have a powerful tool for activism at the micro level\, as well as becoming a popular figure in your social circles. \nNari Safavi will present stories and dishes from his privilege of “Hang Around Time” with great culinary artists from the Spanish\, Italian and Iranian traditions and contemplate historical scenarios as to how common dishes in these traditions may have traveled from one to the other.  Join us for the appetizer event of a 3 part series of exploration of narratives of creativity as we hop around the continents and recepies.\nSign up here: \nhttps://culinaryactivism.eventbrite.com \n \nAbout Nari Safavi \n \n \nProximity to innovative souls and witnessing the creative process is a great passion of Nari Safavi.  He is a cultural entrepreneur\, author and a commentator at WBEZ-NPR Chicago and his backgrounds in Chemistry and Philosophy give him skills for exploring the nature of truth as well as what level of carmelization makes a tasty Ragu Bolognese. \nHe is the Global Cooking Smackdown Champion of WBEZ with his recipe of Ghormeh Sabzi\, borrowed from the tenth century Persian / Moslem renaissance man\, Avicenna ( Ibn e Sina ).\n\n \nSpecial Offers: \n \nGuests as first time customers will also receive a unique $20 off promo code toward Eat Purely\, a great service that delivers chef-crafted\, all organic meals to resident’s doors in 20 minutes or less.\n \nEuroluxe Interiors (www.euroluxeinteriors.com) is an established business\, continuously growing and evolving\, offering a unique combination of professional design service in conjunction with a wide variety of modern cabinetry\, interior doors\, bathroom vanities and transformable furniture – all offered through one studio showroom.

SUMMARY:An Evening with the Co-founders of Rumi Spice and Chef Aram Reed
DESCRIPTION:Join Community Dining along with Kimberly Jung and Emily Miller\, the co-founders of Rumi Spice\, for an evening of delicious appetizers and desserts incorporating Rumi Spice’s saffron prepared by Chef Aram Reed at a private undisclosed location in Chicago’s Lakeview area. \nRumi Spice \n \nRumi Spice is the premier Afghan public-benefit corporation\, cultivating peace through sustainable economic development. \nWe’re a team of military veterans sourcing the world’s highest quality saffron direct from Afghan farmers\, who are also our partners. \nWe understand first hand the challenges and opportunities facing the country\, and the need to strengthen Afghanistan’s greatest resource… its people.  By connecting Afghan farmers directly to the international market\, we seek to catalyze market driven economic development\, one farmer at a time. \nAt Rumi Spice we strive to provide high-quality\, sustainably farmed saffron to US consumers by sourcing directly from rural Afghan farmers in an economic partnership. We reinvest our profits to build the agricultural and manufacturing infrastructure necessary to lay a foundation for peace and prosperity.   \nIn previous years\, neglect of the rural Afghan majority contributed to the rise of the Taliban\, who capitalized on historic grievances. Without investment in agriculture\, Afghan farmers have little prospects with shrinking land allotments – making them susceptible to the Taliban.  \nRumi Spice strives to change this dynamic. We provide Afghan farmers with a direct market to produce and sell saffron globally. \n In the News \n\nA Start-Up Turns to Saffron to Help Afghanistan Regrow\n \nRead full article \n\nThe Most Innovative Women in Food and Drink\n \nRead full article \nChef Aram Reed \n \nChef Aram Reed speicalizes in private dining\, cooking instruction\, and catering with an emphasis on fresh\, quality ingredients and stunning presentations thoughtfully customized for every event.  His passion for good food and good company and his zest for life are reflected both in his work as a chef and cooking instructor.  Chef Aram is known\, not only for creating tantalizing and satifsying menus\, but an overall experience that is truly memorable. \nA graduate of Western Illinois University with a Bachelors degree in Public Communications and Human Relations\, Chef Aram spent several years in the financial industry successfully.  In 2008\, he left the business world to pursue his passion for cooking and graduated top of his class at the prestigious Le Cordon Bleu of Chicago. Chef Aram then furthered his studies by completing his Culinary Arts degree through a series of apprenticeships in Sorrento\, Italy where he fell in love with the Italian culture\, way of life and the regional cuisines.Upon returning to Chicago\, Chef Aram Reed established his personal dining and catering business to share his passion and experiences with others.  When he’s not whipping up a fabulous meal for his clients\, he can be found exploring Chicago’s great ethnic neighborhoods discovering new inspirations to share with you.  Aram can also be seen volunteering his time and cooking skills at various homeless shelters throughout the city. \nList of Purveyors \n \nSmith Devereux (formerly J.W. Thomas Wines) utilizes over 60 years of family winemaking experience to produce sustainably farmed\, limited production wines.  With a strong belief in every bottle of wine telling a story\, Smith Devereux farms only the highest quality grapes to create their award winning portfolio of wines.  Their first wine\, Verse & Chorus was selected by Whole Foods as a Top 10 Holiday Pick and Wine Club Selection\, and won Best in Class and a Gold Medal at the West Coast Wine Competition.  On the heels of this success\, Smith Devereux launched critically acclaimed brands: Weather (2x Gold Medal Winner)\, Hanaiali’i (2x Double Gold\, Best in Class\, West Coast Wine Competition and 90pts Wine Spectator) and Dennen (91pts Wine Spectator) as well as the flagship Smith Devereux line of wines. \nTiesta Tea \n\n\n \nIT ALL STARTED WHEN CHILDHOOD FRIENDS DISCOVERED THEIR LOVE FOR LOOSE TEA\, WHILE STUDYING IN PRAGUE \n \nDan and Patrick stopped in a Czech tea house their first day in Prague …. Let’s just say it wouldn’t be their last. \nAFTER COMING HOME\, DAN AND PATRICK QUICKLY LEARNED HOW HARD IT WAS TO FIND QUALITY LOOSE TEA… WITHOUT GOING BROKE \n \nThe few tea shops that carried quality\, exotic blends\, seemed to charge an arm and leg just to smell their tea. This led to the aha moment\,“Why don’t we just make this loose tea lifestyle accessible for everyone!?” \nGotham Greens \n\nGotham Greens is a global pioneer in the field of urban agriculture and a leading regional producer of hyper-local\, premium-quality vegetables and herbs. Gotham Greens was a recipient of the 2015 Martha Stewart “American Made” award and was founded in 2009 in Brooklyn\, New York.  www.gothamgreens.com \n Olivia’s Market \n \nFueled with an entrepreneurial spirit and a love of delicious food\, we opened Olivia’s Market in August 2004. Since then\, the store has grown its staff\, product offerings\, and customer base\, but our mission has always remained the same:  Provide excellent customer service and offer the finest quality products at the ease of neighborhood shopping.  Thank you to all of our customers past\, present\, and future who support Olivia’s Market! \nPlates\, Silverware\, and Composting\n \n \n\nOUR STORY SO FAR\nBefore supermarkets\, people trusted their grocer at the local General Store for the best ingredients\, advice and service.  He curated his products\, was knowledgeable about them and served his customers well. \nIn the early twentieth century\, the supermarket with its self-service model was introduced\, and the days of the trustworthy\, knowledgeable grocer were gone.  Rather than provide expertise\, store staff simply stocked shelves and manned cash registers.  And information about each product was relegated to their packaging labels which meant it became the customer’s responsibility to understand the ingredients and know which items were best for their household. \nOver the years\, the font size listing the ingredients on the packages got smaller while the length of ingredients got longer and more complex.  It was common to find ingredients like Parabens\, Triclosan and Sodium Laurel Sulphate in everyday items.  Since most consumers had no idea what these chemicals were\, they had to trust the companies who packaged the products and food. \nIn 2016\, people understand there are consequences to eating food and using products that contain ingredients with sci-fi names. \nBut\, let’s be honest—even those who care deeply about what’s in the products they use and food they eat—who has the time or expertise to research these ingredients and identify the good from the bad? \nWe do.  And we have. \nPreserve Large On the Go Plates are lightweight and festive but can also last and last.  We designed them to be dishwasher safe and withstand hundreds of uses.  Sold in packs of 8\, the plates are affordable enough to have a whole party’s worth on hand.  At the end of your event\, simply gather everything up and throw it in the dishwasher.  You’ll be ready to entertain at a moment’s notice! \nCutlery from Onyx \n \nOnyx was founded in 2003 and has grown into a leader in the emerging sustainability sector of today’s marketplace.  We have a dynamic team with diverse business backgrounds and experience.  We share a common passion for sustainability in our personal lives as well as our workplace.  Our mission is to develop and expand innovative ways to bring more green products to the mainstream by offering diverse products lines at economic prices.  We’re actively involved in the community and we support ordinances and laws that help advance green initiatives.  We’re ambitious.  We’re passionate.  We’re innovative.  We’re Onyx. \nAll food scraps\, cutlery\, and napkins will be composted! \n  \nCollective Resource\, Inc. is a woman-owned food scrap pickup service based in Evanston.  We collect all food waste and compostable products from homes\, businesses\, and institutions and take them to a commercial composting site.  The food scraps then become a nutrient-rich soil amendment instead of sitting in a landfill. Commercial composting is different from backyard composting\, because anything that was once alive (including meat and dairy products) can be composted.  In addition to hauling compost\, we educate the public about the importance of reducing landfill use. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSign up here: \nhttps://rumispicearamreed.eventbrite.com

It became difficult to find snacks that fit within the parameters of the paleo diet.  It was as if I was on a constant scavenger hunt at the grocery store searching for paleo-friendly snacks. Instead of searching for the perfect snack\, I started making my own.  I have always had a passion for baking\, so I made paleo granola and carried it with me for a quick on-the-go treat.  After sharing it with family\, friends and other paleo foodies\, I was encouraged to package and sell it.  I took my product to local gyms and farmers markets to sample and sell the product and got instant customer validation.  People loved it! And would pay for it!  After determining there was a real market for my product\, I left the corporate world behind to work on Paleo Scavenger full time.  I feel so lucky and honored to be doing what I love and making products that people truly enjoy and feel good about eating. \n\n \n I Heart Keenwah \n \nI Heart Keenwah was started by two friends\, Sarah and Ravi\, in 2010. Ravi\, an avid traveler and self-proclaimed foodie\, loved quinoa so much that he traveled to Bolivia to learn more about the tiny\, versatile seed. He became enamored with the idea of making ready-to-eat quinoa snacks\, so he brought the idea back to his friend Sarah in Chicago. The two tinkered around in the kitchen until Quinoa Clusters were born. Crunchy\, sweet\, and as wholesome and natural as quinoa itself\, this snackable quinoa treat inspired a line of healthy products we’re proud to make. Our simple ingredients and surprising flavors are a fun way to “heart” yourself by the handful.  \n \nJackson Junge Gallery \n \n \nExhibiting both emerging and established artists in a wide range of mediums\, the Jackson Junge gallery is identified by its atmosphere\, function\, and energy.  It is our ambition to showcase an array of contemporary art and hand made non-functional crafts\, making it an extraordinary destination for all individuals interested in the arts looking for unique gifts or coveting to build a personal collection.\n\nWith the belief that art should be accessible to everyone\, the Jackson Junge Gallery offers a wide range of price points to accommodate any budget. In this fast paced world of over processed\, refined\, “convenient“ foods\,  we offer a more thoughtful and deliberate relationship  to food and dining.  We use a whole foods philosophy with a  vegetable centric  approach to cooking\, without compromising on flavour or taste.  We support local and organic farmers and food producers\, whenever possible.  Whether from Dirt Doll\, Chicago’s farmers markets\, or our own garden and urban homesteading. We always strive to use the best available natural ingredients. \nReservations are taken in the form of a suggested donation\, and always BYOB. \nTuri \nI love the magic of having guests gather around the dining table sharing food\, stories\, and ideas.  For me\, it has always been so captivating.  I have always loved cooking and hosting friends and family. Nothing pleases me more than seeing people enjoy my home cooking!  Having friends constantly wanting to come over for dinner\, and always leaving with a happy smile and full belly\, gives me great pleasure. My love of the culinary arts started back in university when a group of friends and I decided to have weekly dinner parties\, rotating hosts each week.  The hosting was always the most enjoyable part for me\, coming up with a theme\, planning the menu\, and having friends squeal with delight at my latest cooking creation.   I have spent a lot of time in my kitchen since then experimenting\, trying new things\, playing with flavours\, perfecting old favourites and generally cooking up storm. \n\n\n\nProduce sourced from Anarchy Organic.\n\n\n\nMission\n\nAnarchy Organic brings organic\, sustainable produce back to where the people and small businesses are.  We strive to provide transparency of where the food on your plate comes from and how it got there\, a step towards a more symbiotic community\, and an escape from “Big Ag.”\n\nStory\n\nAnarchy Organic uses organic\, sustainable methods to cultivate the land.  We try to learn from and share with our peers in order to continue using ever better\, more ecologically sound methods.  We currently grow specialty produce to sell directly to restaurants. In the future\, with expansion\, we are looking to also provide CSA services and other options to serve the local community.\n\nFounders\n\n\n\n\n\nDana McMullin & Jessica “Z” Zaniolo\n\n\n\nAnarchy Organic Contact Information\nanarchyorganic@gmail.com\n\n

SUMMARY:Dinner and Discussion of Seafood Industry with Founders of Sitka Salmon Shares
DESCRIPTION:Community Dining will be hosting its second seafood-themed dinner with Nic Mink and Marsh Skeele\, the founders of Sitka Salmon Shares.\n\nSign up here:\n\nhttps://heartlandsss.eventbrite.com\n\nThe discussion will focus on these questions:\n\n1.  How accurate are seafood labeling practices in grocery stores and what factors result in mislabeling?  Who determines labeling standards and how is the integrity of these standards maintained?\n\n2.  What regulatory bodies oversee the seafood insdustry and how have these regulations affected consumers?\n\n3.  To what extent to large copmanies control the seafood industry regulations?  What effect have these regulations had on small fisherman and processors?\n\n4.  When buying seafood\, what questions should consumers ask to ensure they can make informed decisions?\n\n5.  How significant is mercury contamination in seafood?  How can consumers avoid or limit their exposure to seafood contaminated with mercury?\n\n \n\nAbout the Founders:\n\nNic Mink is the president of Sitka Salmon Shares\, a sustainable seafood company that offers its membership an opportunity to purchase fish directly from the company’s fishermen owners. He’s also a lecturer of Environmental Studies at Knox College\, where he teaches class on food and natural resource management.\n\nMarsh Skeele is a second generation\, hook and line fisherman\, from Sitka\, Alaska. As Sitka Salmon Shares Vice President\, he splits time between catching fish and helping deliver his catch directly to fish-loving customers in the Midwest.\n\nAbout Sitka Salmon Shares:\n\n \n\n\n\n \n\nOur story begins in 2011\, when a Midwestern college professor\, Nic\, and his two students traveled to Sitka\, Alaska\, for the summer. There\, they engaged in conversations and deepened their understanding of the importance of protecting Southeast Alaska’s wild salmon populations and the pristine environment that supports one of the world’s last great salmon reserves.\n\nThey returned to the Midwest with boxes of line-caught\, wild Alaskan salmon\, harvested by their fisher friends in Sitka. To say the fish was well-received would be an understatement. People raved about the salmon’s taste and were impressed by its traceability. They quickly made the connection between their consumption and the impact this small act could have on conservation efforts and the health of Alaska’s sustainable fisheries. Perhaps\, the group thought\, they were on to something.\n\nWhile in Alaska\, this band of merry Midwesterners met Marsh. Marsh was the self-styled foodie and passionate gourmand of Sitka’s hook-and-line salmon fleet. A local legend on the Sitka dinner party circuit\, Marsh’s favorite pastime included sourcing ingredients from the wilds of Southeast Alaska and elevating them with techniques learned from stints in professional kitchens.\n\nAs you might suspect\, Marsh’s quest for perfect food spilled into his work as a commercial fisherman. He obsessively handled his fish every step of the way to guarantee that eaters on the other end of his line enjoyed the perfection he sought in his own kitchen—including his family down in the proud town of Green Bay\, Wisconsin.\n\nWith a lot of passion and even more luck\, Sitka Salmon Shares was born.\n\nSitka Salmon Shares is now a completely integrated boat-to-doorstep seafood company. We have a lovable group of fishermen-owners who deliver our fish. We have a small processing plant in Sitka\, Alaska\, where we custom-process our catch with a laser focus on quality and traceability. And we have two Good-Fish Hubs in the Midwest\, which allow us to deliver our fishermen’s catch directly to your doorstep (or to your local farmers market or restaurant).\n\nAt Sitka Salmon Shares\, you’re joining a community of artisan fishers\, healthy eaters\, foodies\, and Alaskan adventurers in our collective efforts to rebuild America’s seafood system from the ground up. All of us together are actively supporting sustainably sourced seafood and independent\, family fishermen who fish in much the same way their grandparents did.\n\n

SUMMARY:Lunch and Learn at Bohemian House: How You Can Get Involved!
DESCRIPTION:Community Dining will be hosting the first in a series of interactive lunch and learn sessions to give people a forum to discuss how they can become more actively involved in growing our community.\n\nSign up here:\n\nhttps://boholunchandlearn.eventbrite.com\n\nAgenda:\n\n Evaluate past Community Dining events and assess how they can attract more people of diverse interests and backgrounds in order to further unite our neighborhoods\n Develop a list of potential sponsors and hosts for future events\n Build a revenue model(s) to ensure the sustainability of Community Dining\n Distinguish between Community Dining gatherings and networking events to help illustrate what Community Dining can offer\n Create a list of action items that each participant will implement and monitor\n\n \n\nSome questions to consider include:\n\n \n\n1.  What types of events would inspire you to donate your time? \n\nCommunity Dining events have many different types of themes including\, but not limited to those described on the website:\n\nhttp://communitydining.com/community-dining-themes/\n\n\n2.  Do you have a particular cause\, activity\, or interest that resonates with you? \n\nWhether you are focused on expressing yourself through food\, planning an exceptional meal\, bringing attention to a social issue that affects our communities\, or simply meeting people in a comfortable setting free of the pressures of networking\, Community Dining can serve as a forum to volunteer your time in a way that directly relates to subjects that matter to you.\n\n3.  If you could have dinner with anyone\, who would you choose?\n\nDo you have a favorite author that you have always wanted to meet?  Or an entrepreneur you have always admired?  Or maybe a celebrity crush?  Volunteering for Community Dining can help your wish come to fruition by working with others who share a desire for community building!\n\n4.  How else can Community Dining offer fun and cool events and activities?\n\nI was recently at a dinner hosted by Swell Happenings\, a seasonable supper club that gathers to savor and celebrate Slow Food in Chicago started by Turi Henriques.  It was a great evening with interesting company in Turi’s backyard.  One of the guests I was sitting across from mentioned how she always wanted to be a matchmaker.  This conversation gave me an idea:  Why not structure dinners exclusively for single people who want to meet others in an environment already structured around people’s shared interests?  Maybe we can disrupt an entire industry!\n\n\n\nAnother idea I had was to include aldermen and other elected officials as featured speakers in future events where they can discuss and debate issues pertinent to their wards or districts.  I thought it might be fun to give people an opportunity to engage with their representatives over a shared meal.  While some of these issues might get contentious\, I’ve been curious to see if a shared meal can provide an atmosphere that helps foster substantive and civil dialogue where all sides listen and learn.  If nothing else\, these gatherings will serve as an entertaining social experiment!\n\nI’ve also thought about using Community Dining as a platform to connect professional athletes with their fan base\, especially in light of the heightened focus on nutrition in professional sports.  I remember going to a restaurant when I was six years old and getting to meet some of the Chicago Cubs.  It was such a fun experience and I hope that with our efforts\, we can not only re-create the experience I had\, but also enhance it.  For example\, Jake Arieta is a big fan of cold-pressed juices\, marinated chicken\, quinoa\, roasted vegetables\, and other “foods that will lead to clarity of mind\,” as he puts it.   It would be fun to have him as a speaker with a meal centered on these juices and dishes sourced from local purveyors such as Gunthorp Farms!\n\n\n\nWhat I’d really like to come out of these lunch and learn sessions is ongoing opportunities for participation.  If I can formulate these ideas alone\, imagine what we can accomplish through regular lunch and learn sessions where everyone has the chance to share their ideas as well.\n\n \n\nAbout Bohemian House:\n\n\n\nLocated in Chicago’s River North neighborhood at State and Illinois (11 W. Illinois)\, Bohemian House captures the lighthearted and carefree essence of Bohemian culture. Exposed brick walls and wood timber\, eclectic décor\, warm earth tones and soft lighting set the backdrop for a comfortable and sociable dining experience.\n\nGuests can expect to enjoy an original menu of Bohemian-inspired fare with influences from the Czech Republic\, Germany and Austria.  Acquainting Central Europe to the Central U.S.\, our culinary team maintains cultural authenticity with a fresh approach\, utilizing the best of what’s in season. Our menu presents a selection of small and large plates that are ideal for sharing\, for dinner\, weekday lunch and weekend brunch.\n\nAt Bohemian House\, we take an eclectic approach to traditional European spirits and brews\, and our drinks are designed to complement the cuisine. A host of our cocktails feature house-infused spirits and all are crafted with fresh\, seasonal and house-made ingredients. Our carefully-curated\, extensive selection of beer includes European and domestic artisan brewers.\n\nStep out of Chicago and into Bohemia.
